Monitor Your Ocular Health
If it’s been a while since you’ve had your eyes checked, or you’ve started to notice that something is not quite right with your vision, it’s a good idea to undertake a professional eye test.
Here at EyeMax EyeCare, our goal is to ensure your eyesight and overall ocular health is monitored regularly throughout your life.
Our comprehensive eye examinations provide you with an accurate assessment of your vision and will allow us to detect any early signs of eye conditions or diseases such as dry eyes, blepharitis, glaucoma, cataracts or macular degeneration.
Located in Wallsend, our centre caters for patients throughout Newcastle, Nelson Bay and Gosford. Call (02) 4955 9950 or send us an email enquiry.
The Eye Examination Process
During our standard comprehensive eye examination, we assess the following:
- Visual Acuity: this is used to determine your level of visual clarity rating a person’s ability to recognise small details.
- Refraction: this helps us determine the best lens prescription
- External examination: we'll check for any signs of eye conditions or eye diseases.
- Intraocular pressure: this helps us to identify if you are at risk of glaucoma or having any other related issues.
- Retinal examination: this allows us to check for any signs of eye disease or damage.
Depending on your individual needs, we may also carry out further tests to assess the health of your eyes. We will provide you with a detailed explanation of what’s involved and what the results mean before deciding on the best course of action. This may include
prescribing glasses, prescribing eye drops or referring you to a specialist.

The Importance of Regular Eye Examinations
Regular examinations are an easy way to keep an eye, on your eyes! By tracking changes over time, you can ensure that any changes or abnormalities are identified early on. This can help you maintain optimal vision and overall eye health.
With age, the eyes can become affected by a range of conditions, some of which may not be immediately noticeable but can be detected through regular testing, allowing us to provide treatment early and prevent further deterioration. These can include:
- Glaucoma – this is a leading cause of blindness and can be treated with the right care
- Cataracts – these are cloudy patches in the eye lens that can blur vision
- Macular degeneration – this can cause problems with central vision, making it difficult to recognise faces or read small print
At EyeMax EyeCare, we take the time to discuss any eye problems you may be experiencing including any lifestyle factors that may be contributing to the problem. This way we can provide you with personalised advice.
