Types of Lenses

There are so many different options for your glasses/lenses but not all are suitable for every person as and everyone’s eyes and needs are different. The most common lens types are:

  • Single vision lenses: They are the simplest and easiest lenses for distance, intermediate or near as separate single vision lenses.
  • Multifocal & Anti Fatigue lenses: Digitally integrate distance, intermediate and near all in one to create a smooth can continuous visual experience.
  • Enhanced reading lenses: Magic reading lenses that combine intermediate for computers and near for close up and keyboard. With the addition of a Blue Zero blue light filter these lenses make it far easier to get through your day with a smooth and comfortable working experience for your eyes.
  • Bifocal lenses: Correct both distance and near with a visible dividing line on the lenses separating both sections. They can be difficult for intermediate (arm’s length) vision and are becoming outdated as multifocal technology advances.

Our optometrists at EyeMax EyeCare will help determine the best lens type taking in account of your optical needs in your day-to-day life. Call (02) 4955 9950 to book an appointment today!

Lens Add-Ons

Along with lens types, there is a range of lens add-ons that help give you and your eyes maximum comfort and support. There are a few main lens add-ons, such as:

  • Computer blue light filters: Absorbs and blocks out all blue light or HEV (high energy visible) light, protecting your eyes from strain when working at computers, tablets or phones.
  • Anti-reflection UV multicoating: Our superior multicoatings are built to last and keep you glasses crystal clear, keeping away distracting reflections. They won’t scratch as easy and makes lenses much easier to keep clean, improving your whole visual experience.
  • Transition photochromatic tinting: Transitions are the leading brand of photochromic lenes and have been developed to be fully clear indoors, darker outdoors and returns to clear faster than ever making it far more convenient to have sun protection. Transitions come in a range of colours from grey and purple to emerald green.
  • Hi-index thinner material: If you have a stronger prescription, using a higher index material allows your lenses to become thinner and lighter than conventional lenses. They will look more cosmetically pleasing and far more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time.
  • Polarised sunglasses tinting: For sunglasses a tinting and polarised filter is recommended to best filter through harmful UV rays that can cause long term damage. Tinting comes in a range of colours to help combat sun glare.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do lenses help correct my vision?

Most vision problems are related to how light focuses on the retina on the back of your eye. The eyes lens bends light to the retina, which is then converted into signals sent to the brain that creates the images we see. Lenses work by bending light like the lens in your eye does. When your lens is not focusing the light correctly, your vision becomes blurry. The prescription from your eye test is the recipe to make your lenses. Astigmatism is also corrected using lenses which is caused by an imperfection in the cornea or lens.

Glasses make your vision clearer while wearing them — but they don’t change your eyes. Wearing glasses doesn’t make your eyes weaker or your vision worse but helps your eyes relax and stop overworking, making your day-to-day life far more enjoyable.

  • How long does it take to get my lenses and glasses?

All glasses and lens combinations are almost always uniquely tailored to an individual person’s needs. This means that because so many options are available, it takes time to manufacture, cut and fit your glasses and lenses. Most glasses are custom-made to your eyes' prescription and measurements, and it will take different times for each person.

Simple lenses will normally take around 1-2 weeks, and more complex lenses will take 2-3 weeks. This also varies around busy times when more people are ordering glasses. We always try our best to get your glasses as soon as possible, and we are always here to help answer questions! Call (02) 4955 9950 to ask today!

Optical Lab & Lens Process

Here at EyeMax EyeCare, we have an optical lab to provide onsite cutting and fitting of lenses for in-house assembly. We personally cut, fit and check almost all lenses from single vision to multifocal lenses making a more personal and cared for experience as we check all details of your glasses and lenses before we give them to you. If your own frame is in good condition, we are also able to fit new lenses into your own existing frame without sending them away.

Unlike large corporations, we are dedicated to giving you the best quality and most reliable lenses that are easy to clean and easy to wear. Lenses are made in the shape of a large circle using convex and concave shapes to create your prescription. They are the cut from this circular shape from a traced shape of the frame chosen. Lenses are also cut taking in account of your eye’s pupil distance – the distance of how far apart your eyes are – and often how your eyes sit in the depth of the frame.

We source most of our lenses from our lens lab in Brisbane, QLD, made in Australia. Their high-tech process of making and coating your lenses allows for the best quality and best vision and adaptability to give you the best vision possible. Our other lens labs still provide quality but can be more budget friendly for those only needing single vision reading or distance glasses.
